Zeenat Aman, the first South Asian woman to win the title of Miss Asia Pacific has all the credits to introduce the modern look to Hindi Cinema. She, along with Parveen Babi, broke all the stereotypes by choosing to enact unconventional roles in the era when the actresses enacted the roles of dutiful wives and obedient lovers. She chooses to wear bikini and jeans instead of draping sarees all the time.
However, the journey to being a renowned actress wasn’t that easy for her. After two unsuccessful films, she decided to pack her bags and leave the country. That was when she was offered a supporting role in ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, but she opted out as she wanted the lead part. As fate played, Zeenat Aman got the role at the last minute and this marked her first success. ‘Dum Maro Dum’ and ‘Chura Liya Hai’ songs still play in people’s hearts. ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ and ‘Insaaf Ka Taraju’ won her Filmfare nominations too.
With fame, controversies were also a part of Zeenat Aman’s life. Zeenat stirred controversies and was highly criticized for her bold scenes in Satyam Shivam Sundaram. Apart from this, she had really bad experience in marriage. Her marriage with Sanjay Khan ended within a year due to an abusive relationship. She then married Mazhar Khan and had two sons. But in 1998, Mazhar Khan passed away. Recently, she accused a businessman of conning her emotionally and duping her of all her savings. He convinced her to invest in real estates and swept out her money which left her practically nothing but a home for her sons and her.

Zeenat Aman was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award at Zee Cine Awards(2008) and ‘Outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema at IIFA(2010) added to the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 and Filmfare nominations for her remarkable movies. She has been mesmerizing us with her spectacular performances and will continue to be here for a long time.
