Bill Gates has been the torchbearer of being the world’s richest person for many years or to say for decades. Surprisingly, now the torch is in the hands of Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon. With a surge in the shares of Amazon which incremented the value of the online retailer’s market by 57 percent, favored the fortune of Jeff Bezos whose net worth increased above $120 billion. Now, Bill Gates is at second position with Jeff Bezos leading by about $21 billion.

Till last year, Bill Gates had been holding the first spot for the world’s richest person for four times in a row. He held the position 18 times out of past 23 years. With a surprising change, this year, he was left behind to get the second spot by the CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. According to the reports, the net worth of Jeff Bezos has exceeded more than the combined net worth of Bill Gates and Elon Musk.
Before too, Jeff Bezos was briefly the richest person during July 2017. He became the first person to achieve a net worth of $90 billion. But as the markets closed, he lost the position. Now, a large part of his wealth is from his $78.9 million shares of Amazon. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bezos’ net worth is currently USD 106 billion on last Monday itself.
On the other hand, the net worth of Bill Gates is USD 93.3 billion as per the Bloomberg gaining him the second spot for the richest person most significantly due to his contribution to Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Some other richest persons in the world according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index are Warren Buffet, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Page (founder, Alphabet), Larry Ellison(founder, Oracle), Mukesh Ambani, Lakshmi Mittal, Aziz Premji and Shiv Nadar.
